Gun Free Schools Report

GRANTS MANAGEMENT

5/14/2026

Most likely you had no weapons incidents in 2025-26, and thankfully so! Even if you had no incidents, all charters that receive any federal funds must submit the Gun Free Report (PR6000) by June 29, 2026. If you were one of the unfortunate few that did have a weapons incident, do not worry that this will hurt your federal funding. It is simply a reporting requirement. You should not do it before your last day of school in case there are incidents on the last day, and summer school is something to consider for the date to submit.

Where is the report located?

The Gun Free Report (PR6000) is found in TEAL/eGrants under the Compliance Report tab. The report will encompass incidents between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026. The report is very short and simple if you have had no incidents this year. You will simply answer Yes or No to this question:

Were any students found to have brought a firearm (as defined by Title 18 U.S.C., Section 921) to school? Include students even if expulsion was shortened or no penalty was imposed.

For the definition of a firearm (which is more broad than just guns), see this link: Firearm Definition Title 52 18 USC Section 921.

What if we did have a weapon incident?

If you answer Yes to the above question, it will open the campus level reports (PR6100). You will select the correct campus of the student offender and enter more detailed information about the incident. Keep in mind that incidents on any school property including athletic fields and school buses must be reported. You will want to make sure these incidents were correctly reported in PEIMS.

What about summer school?

If your summer school ends before June 30, you could wait until after summer school to submit the report. However, since the likelihood of an event is very low, CSS generally recommends going ahead and submitting it after the regular year ends. If a summer school incident happens to occur, you can contact TEA to reopen it.

inSchools hopes that you had a safe and healthy school year, and we are here to help with PEIMS data for discipline and all grant related compliance!

Lastly, please be aware that no grant awards (NOGAs) for the 2026-27 school year will be released until the Gun Free Schools Report is complete!
